Snapshot is Progressive Insurance’s innovative tool for helping safe drivers receive the price and coverage they deserve. The device plugs into your vehicle and monitors your driving habits to determine what kind of savings you should earn, anywhere from 0% to 30% off your car insurance.
After six months of use, you will send back the Snapshot monitor, and Progressive will finalize your driving profile. Your savings will continue as long as you’re insured by Progressive. Keep in mind that your use of Snapshot will not make your rate go up, and you can always send the device back early if you decide the program isn’t right for you.
What Is Monitored?
Snapshot will include the number of miles you drive, your speed, the time of day you travel, and how often you make sudden stops. It also records your vehicle identification number and when the device is connected and disconnected from its port. It does not track your vehicle location or whether you are exceeding speed limits.
The data won’t be shared with anyone else unless it is required to service your auto insurance policy, prevent fraud, perform research or comply with the law. The information gathered won’t be used in a claim unless Progressive receives permission from you or the registered owner of the vehicle.
You can always see your own data that is uploaded to Progressive by logging in to your account online. You can review specific trips, your driving by day of the week or time of day, and your overall driving habits.
